Knitted Elf on the Shelf

I love the idea of the Elf on the Shelf, but I don’t really love the motivation behind it. The elf is spying on you for Santa? No thanks. Actually, we straight up told Peanut this year that Santa isn’t real (but in the context that anyone can be Santa and that we’re going to be Santa by helping someone in need this year). Anyway, I like the idea of hiding a cute little elf somewhere and they have to find it each morning. I also don’t like the price of an Elf on the Shelf, so I decided to knit one!

One problem with that plan–I didn’t like any of the knitting patterns for elves on Ravelry. What I did like was this pattern for a crocheted Elf on the Shelf. Initially I thought “Yeah, I’ll crochet it! I can crochet!” but quickly figured out it would be way more complicated than crocheting a wash cloth. So I decided to convert it to a knitting pattern!

  1. She turned out really cute! I crocheted an elf on the shelf just so I can take pictures. We don’t have kids yet, but maybe next year 🙂
